Adjustable Phase

Adjustable Phase indicates whether a subwoofer provides a phase control to help combine its output with the main speakers.

The control may be a 0°/180° switch or a continuously variable setting. It changes the relationship between overlapping sound from the subwoofer and speakers. A phase control is distinct from a delay adjustment, which changes the signal’s timing by a stated amount.

Adjustable Phase — Subwoofer

Near the crossover region, the combined level depends on how the two sources arrive at the listening position. A different phase setting can increase or reduce their reinforcement or cancellation. The useful setting therefore depends on placement, filtering and the rest of the system.

Compare settings from the same seat while keeping other controls unchanged. One phase setting does not guarantee alignment at every frequency or every seat. The feature entry identifies an available adjustment; it does not measure phase response, specify the adjustment range or prove that the subwoofer is already correctly integrated.
