Adjustable Shelf Spacing
Adjustable Shelf Spacing indicates whether the heights of a rack’s shelves can be changed.
Moving a shelf changes the vertical space available for equipment above or below it. Adjustment may use fixed mounting positions, interchangeable supports or another mechanism. The feature does not specify the available increments or prove that every shelf can be moved independently.
Adjustable Shelf Spacing — Rack
Plan the gaps around the actual components, including feet, controls and the ventilation space each manufacturer requires. A component fitting into a gap does not establish that it has enough cooling clearance. Allow for the space needed to lift equipment into place without striking the shelf above.
Check the permitted shelf positions and load limits before rearranging the rack. Adjusting spacing does not increase its rated load capacity or total height unless the design specifically provides for that change. Follow the assembly instructions and unload the relevant shelves before altering supports rather than adjusting them under equipment weight.
