AES3 Sync Output

The number of XLR AES3 outputs able to send a digital synchronization reference rather than music data.

An AES11 digital audio reference signal, also called DARS or digital black, carries timing in an AES-compatible frame. It is different from a dedicated word-clock or 10 MHz signal.

AES3 Sync Output — External Clock

For an External Clock, an AES3 synchronization output can provide a timing reference to equipment that supports synchronization through its AES input. The receiving device must support that use.

Read the figure as the count of suitable output connections. An AES/EBU socket that only passes or reclocks audio does not establish blank-frame synchronization support. A product may provide both functions, but its stated operating modes determine what the output can send.

Compare the required reference format and supported rates with the receiving equipment. An XLR connector alone does not establish AES synchronization, and an analogue XLR input is unrelated. This count describes available connections rather than clock accuracy or audio-channel count.
