AM Bandwidth Modes
The fixed, selectable or automatic filter bandwidth settings available for AM radio reception.
AM bandwidth modes describe how broadly the tuner’s receiver filter accepts frequencies around a station. The choice trades audio bandwidth against rejection of nearby stations. It concerns reception of one station, rather than the total AM tuning range.
AM Bandwidth Modes — Tuner
On a tuner, Wide can retain more high-frequency audio when reception is clear. Narrow can reduce interference from an adjacent station, but may also make the sound duller. Try the narrower setting when neighbouring signals intrude, and the wider setting when they do not.
Single fixed means there is no bandwidth choice; Auto lets the tuner choose. Compare actual filter widths when provided, because Wide and Narrow are relative labels. AM settings are separate from FM filters, and a narrower filter cannot remove every source of reception noise.
