Analog Output Mode

Analogue output mode identifies whether a line output is fixed, variable or switchable between those modes.

A fixed output bypasses user volume adjustment at that output; a variable output follows the relevant level control. The mode describes behavior, separately from socket count or output voltage.

Analog Output Mode — Tuner

For a tuner, a variable line output can set the level sent to the next component. A fixed output normally relies on downstream volume control.

Check which output and control the mode applies to. A recording output may behave differently from a variable output, and an input trim does not establish adjustable line-output level.

Analog Output Mode — Headphone Amp

For a headphone amplifier, this field describes its analogue line or preamplifier output, not the volume-controlled headphone socket. A variable line output can control a connected power amplifier or active speakers.

Confirm whether the line output is fixed, variable or selectable before connecting it. A headphone volume knob alone does not establish that the line output follows the same control.
