Asynchronous Reclocking

Asynchronous reclocking uses sample-rate conversion to move incoming audio into an independently timed output clock domain.

The converter calculates output samples for the local timing reference rather than requiring the output clock to follow the incoming clock directly.

Asynchronous Reclocking — Upscaler

For an upscaler, this identifies asynchronous conversion and local output timing in the processing path. The input and output sample rates need not be locked to the same clock.

Distinguish this from simple buffering or a clock that remains locked to the source. The feature does not specify residual jitter or the conversion filter, and sample-rate conversion need not preserve the original sample values.
