Auto Azimuth Correction

Auto Azimuth indicates a system that automatically adjusts head alignment to the tape’s recorded magnetic tracks.

Azimuth concerns the angle of the head gap relative to those tracks. A mismatch can reduce high-frequency output and affect the relationship between channels, even when the tape transport is running at the correct speed.

Auto Azimuth Correction — Tape Deck

Automatic adjustment can help when playing tapes recorded with a different head alignment. Check which transport, direction and operating modes support it. The feature does not imply that recording alignment is adjusted in the same way as playback.

Azimuth correction is separate from tape-type selection, bias calibration and noise reduction. It cannot restore information lost through damaged tape or compensate for every transport problem. Follow the deck’s operating instructions rather than assuming that the feature makes manual maintenance or correct tape handling unnecessary.
