Battery Type
The battery arrangements a portable device supports, including built-in cells, removable packs, standard cells and external cases.
Battery type describes how portable power is supplied and replaced. A device may support more than one arrangement, such as a removable rechargeable pack plus an external cell case. These categories describe the arrangement, rather than battery chemistry or runtime.
Battery Type — MiniDisc
For a portable MiniDisc unit, a removable rechargeable pack can be exchanged when depleted, while a built-in battery is normally charged in place. An external case may add standard cells alongside an internal pack, but the permitted combination depends on the unit.
Check the required pack shape, voltage and charging method, particularly with older gumstick batteries. Compare playback and recording runtimes separately; support for an external case does not itself state either duration. Standard AA or AAA cells inside the player and cells in an attached case are different arrangements.
Battery Type — Digital Tape Recorder
For a portable digital tape recorder, the battery arrangement affects how you prepare for recording away from mains power. A removable pack or supported standard cells allows planned replacements; a fixed internal battery requires access to a suitable charging supply.
Check the recorder’s approved battery types and recording runtime, including any stated microphone-power conditions. Playback duration is not a recording-duration guarantee. An AC adapter or charging stand does not identify the battery fitted, and a mains-powered deck should not be assumed to have portable operation simply because related models do.
