BNC S/PDIF Output
The number of BNC outputs that carry coaxial S/PDIF digital audio.
BNC S/PDIF is an electrical digital-audio connection using a 75 Ω interface. A BNC clock socket carries a different signal, while an RCA S/PDIF output uses a different connector.
BNC S/PDIF Output — DAC
On a DAC, a BNC digital output can pass supported digital audio onward to another converter or component. It may carry a selected input or an integrated USB or network source, depending on the DAC’s routing.
Check the output function and supported sources rather than assuming every input is passed through. A BNC input or clock connection is not an audio output and should not be included in the count.
Compare the transmitted formats and rates with the receiving device. The socket count does not establish unrestricted conversion between inputs, simultaneous routing or a better signal than another supported output.
BNC S/PDIF Output — Streamer
On a Streamer, a BNC S/PDIF output connects digital playback to an external DAC. It offers a coaxial audio route, separate from the streamer’s network connection and any analogue outputs.
Read the count for explicitly identified BNC digital-audio outputs. Check the PCM rates and formats available on that connection; the streamer’s file-playback limits may be higher or otherwise different from its output limits.
Compare the connection with the DAC’s corresponding input and use the specified cable arrangement. A BNC connector alone does not establish audio rather than clock use, and more outputs do not imply independent simultaneous programmes.
BNC S/PDIF Output — SACD Transport
On an SACD Transport, a BNC S/PDIF output provides a digital-audio route for the sources and formats the manufacturer permits on that connector. It should not be assumed to carry every signal the transport can read.
Check whether the output is available for the intended disc area and which PCM rate it sends. Native SACD DSD support must be established separately. A BNC clock connector is not a substitute audio output.
Compare the transmitted signal with the DAC’s supported input formats. The presence of a BNC socket does not establish unrestricted SACD delivery, and the connection count does not indicate multichannel capability.
BNC S/PDIF Output — CD Transport
On a CD Transport, a BNC S/PDIF output sends the disc’s digital audio to a compatible external DAC. The output may carry the original CD rate or a supported converted rate, depending on the transport.
Read the count of BNC audio outputs separately from any word-clock or reference connectors. Keep the published output rate and operating mode with this connection rather than borrowing the limits of another digital output.
Compare the transport and DAC specifications for the intended link. A 75 Ω BNC connection identifies an interface, not a guarantee of superior sound, and the count does not describe separate music channels.
