HDMI Connector Type

HDMI connector type identifies the physical fittings at the ends of the cable.

Standard Type-A, smaller connector variants and detachable-tip arrangements have different physical forms. The connector type is separate from cable bandwidth and feature support.

HDMI Connector Type — HDMI Cable

For an HDMI cable, both ends must fit the intended source and display or audio component. A cable can have different connector types at its two ends, so a single connector label may not describe the whole assembly.

Compare the complete end-to-end connector arrangement, including plug direction or detachable-tip conditions where relevant. A fitting that looks like HDMI can also be used for a non-HDMI interface such as proprietary I²S; physical fit does not establish protocol compatibility. Adaptors also do not automatically add unsupported signal capabilities.
