Optical Cable Connector Type

Optical Cable Connector identifies the plug format at each end of an optical audio cable.

Common forms are full-size TOSLINK and mini-TOSLINK. Mini-TOSLINK resembles a small analogue audio plug but carries light, not an electrical headphone signal. The connector format must match the optical function of the equipment’s socket, including any supported combination socket.

Optical Cable Connector Type — Optical Cable

Check both endpoints and the digital audio format each device supports. A fitting optical plug does not establish that the devices use the same protocol or accept the same sample rates. A cable or adapter can match full-size and mini optical formats without converting the underlying audio format.

Remove protective caps as instructed and route the cable without exceeding its specified bending limits. Do not force a plug into a socket based on appearance. The connector description does not identify fibre material, attenuation or maximum usable length; those are separate properties relevant to the complete optical link.
