RCA Termination Type

RCA Cable Termination describes the connector arrangement fitted to the ends of an RCA interconnect.

A cable may have RCA plugs at both ends or combine RCA with another connector format. The termination describes the physical endpoints and their intended wiring. It does not convert an audio signal’s level, format or electrical arrangement merely by changing the plug shape.

RCA Termination Type — RCA Cable

Match each end to the designated output and input, checking channel assignment and any locking mechanism. An RCA-to-XLR cable, for example, needs wiring compatible with the connected equipment; the XLR end does not automatically make an unbalanced signal balanced.

Check the space around recessed sockets and the strain the connector may place on them. A locking plug should be fitted and released as instructed. Connector finish or plating does not identify the cable’s intended signal type, capacitance or performance. Keep the termination description separate from whether the cable is intended for analogue or digital use.
