Cartridge Demagnetizer
Whether the product includes a demagnetizing function for a supported cartridge or transformer.
Demagnetizing is intended to address residual magnetism in compatible magnetic parts. It is a specific maintenance function, not a general requirement for every cartridge or a substitute for cleaning.
Cartridge Demagnetizer — Step-Up Transformer (SUT)
On a Phono Step-Up Transformer, a built-in demagnetizer may be intended for the transformer’s core, a connected compatible cartridge, or a specified combination. Those targets must not be assumed to be interchangeable.
Read the stated purpose and connection requirements. A standalone demagnetizer sold separately is not a built-in feature, and a general recommendation to demagnetize does not establish that the transformer provides the function itself.
Compare the function with the manufacturer’s guidance for both the transformer and cartridge. Use only the supported arrangement; some cartridge magnets can be affected by inappropriate treatment. A demagnetizer is a maintenance option, not proof of better transformer performance or a need for frequent use.
Cartridge Demagnetizer — Phono Preamp
On a Phono Preamp, a built-in demagnetizer provides a manufacturer-defined treatment for supported cartridges or associated magnetic components. Its scope must be read from the product’s instructions.
“Yes” means the function is incorporated in the stage. A recommendation to use a separate accessory, or a socket through which an external demagnetizer connects, does not establish a built-in function. Missing information should remain unknown.
Check explicit cartridge compatibility before using it and follow the specified procedure. Demagnetizing an unsuitable cartridge can affect its magnets; moving-magnet and moving-coil designs should not be treated as interchangeable. The feature does not establish an automatic audible improvement or universal maintenance schedule.
