Output Impedance (Selectable)
The impedance specified for the clock’s outputs, including different sockets or selectable settings.
Output impedance describes the sending side of the clock connection. It is distinct from the receiving input’s termination and the clock signal’s voltage.
Output Impedance (Selectable) — External Clock
For an External Clock, output impedance helps identify the electrical connection intended for each receiving device. A clock may provide 50 Ω outputs, 75 Ω outputs or both, rather than one setting applying to every socket.
Read the impedance with the relevant output or output group. If switching is provided, check which setting is selected. A BNC socket’s appearance or a suggested cable type alone should not be treated as a published output-impedance value.
Compare the output with the receiver’s required termination and the specified cable arrangement. Neither 50 Ω nor 75 Ω is inherently a better audio specification; compatibility is the purpose. Matching impedance also does not replace checking frequency, waveform and level before connecting a clock source.
