Coil Layers
Coil layers describe how many layers deep a cartridge’s generator winding is. This is a count without a physical unit: single-layer means one layer.
A turn is one loop of wire; a coil can contain many turns in each layer. Separate coils are another count, so “dual coil” does not mean two layers.
Coil Layers — Cartridge
Layer count is a construction detail, not an output or sound-quality rating. It leaves turn count, wire size and magnetic design unspecified. For electrical matching, use the specified output voltage and manufacturer’s loading guidance.
Keep the exact model, variant and maker’s layer description when comparing. If layers are unpublished or unclear, leave the count unknown; other coil or turn counts cannot fill the gap. For optical, strain-gauge or electrostatic cartridges without generator-coil windings, the specification is inapplicable, not a zero-layer rating.
