Configurable I2S Pinout

A configurable I²S pinout lets the user change the connector’s signal assignments to match supported receiving equipment.

Different devices can assign I²S signals differently even when they use the same physical connector. Configurability is separate from the number of outputs or their maximum audio rates.

Configurable I2S Pinout — USB Reclocker

On a USB reclocker, selectable pin assignments can help connect its I²S output to a compatible DAC with a supported mapping. Configuration may use switches or a menu rather than changing the cable wiring.

Compare the actual selectable profiles with the DAC’s required mapping and follow the specified setup procedure. A configurable output is not necessarily compatible with every I²S DAC. A matching connector shape, including an HDMI-shaped fitting, does not establish standard HDMI audio operation or a matching I²S pinout.

Configurable I2S Pinout — Upscaler

On an upscaler, configurable I²S assignments help align the output’s signal mapping with a compatible DAC. The chosen mapping must be correct for the receiving input before the link is used.

Compare the supported pinout profiles and any PCM/DSD-specific settings with the DAC’s requirements. A fixed I²S output is a different feature from selectable mapping. Pinout compatibility alone does not establish that the receiver accepts every rate or format the upscaler can generate.
