DAC Converter

DAC Converter names the chip or proprietary design that converts digital audio into an analogue signal: for example, ESS ES9038PRO or dCS Ring DAC.

Conversion Type describes the conversion principle; Converter Layout describes the number and arrangement of converters. Several identical chips produce one name here; two different converters produce two names.

DAC Converter — DAC

A USB receiver, digital signal processor (DSP), programmable logic chip (FPGA) or clock part name alone does not identify the converter. An FPGA can be part of a proprietary conversion design. “ESS (model not stated)” means the chip model is undisclosed. An unnamed discrete converter, built from individual components, leaves this entry empty; that does not mean there is no DAC.

Use the name to identify the design, not rank sound quality or assume supported formats. Check the exact product revision, its format support and measured analogue output performance.
