DIN Sockets

The number of 180° five-pin DIN analogue-audio sockets on a product. The angle describes the pin arrangement.

A value of two means two sockets, not two pins or channels. One socket carries left and right audio channels. A tape socket can handle both playback and recording while still counting once.

DIN Sockets — Preamp

On a preamp, these sockets connect compatible sources or recorders. Some accept audio only; others also send a recording signal out. Check the socket’s function before choosing a cable.

For a DIN-to-RCA adapter, check both equipment manuals for pin assignment—what each pin carries—playback versus record direction, and compatible signal levels. Physical fit alone does not establish compatibility.

This count excludes RCA sockets, two-pin speaker DIN, mini-DIN control/data ports, seven/eight-pin system connectors and turntable tonearm DIN sockets. They serve different connections, even when their names include DIN.
