Display Resolution

The number of pixels along the two dimensions of a player’s display, stated as a pair of figures.

Display resolution describes the screen’s pixel grid. For example, 1280 × 720 gives two pixel counts, not physical dimensions. Resolution is separate from diagonal size and pixel density, so the same pixel grid can appear on screens of different sizes.

Display Resolution — Digital Audio Player

On a digital audio player, more pixels can support finer artwork and text when screen size and software scaling are comparable. Keep the published orientation in mind: a portrait display may list the smaller dimension first, while another specification lists the landscape arrangement.

Compare resolution together with physical size and how the interface uses the screen. More pixels do not guarantee larger controls, brighter outdoor visibility or a touchscreen. A label such as HD without pixel dimensions is less precise, and a pixels-per-inch figure describes density rather than the two-dimensional resolution itself.
