Driver Cone Material

Driver Cone Material identifies the material used for a subwoofer driver’s moving cone.

Cones may use paper-based, polymer, metal or composite constructions. Coatings and multiple layers can form part of the design, so a surface description may not identify the full structure.

Driver Cone Material — Subwoofer

The cone works with the suspension, motor, enclosure and amplifier. Its mass, stiffness and damping contribute to the driver’s behaviour, but a material name alone does not state those properties or the finished subwoofer’s bass performance.

Check whether the description applies to the main powered driver or another element such as a passive radiator. Compare measured frequency response, output and distortion under stated conditions when assessing performance. A particular cone material is not by itself a reliable ranking of sound quality or durability.
