Balanced Armature Drivers (Per Side)

Balanced armature driver count is the number of balanced armature sound-producing units in one headphone earpiece.

Balanced armature drivers are compact transducers often used in in-ear headphones. Several may share the audible range, or work alongside drivers using other technologies in a hybrid design.

Balanced Armature Drivers (Per Side) — Headphone

The count helps describe how an earpiece is built. Four balanced armatures per side means four in each earpiece, not four across the pair. A single balanced armature unit with two diaphragms still counts as one unit; two separate balanced armatures count as two.

Compare this number with the driver's stated frequency roles and the full technology configuration. More balanced armatures do not by themselves establish wider response or better sound. Crossover bands and sound outlets can serve several drivers, so their number is not a substitute for the driver count. Microphones and passive vents are excluded.
