Maximum DSD Support
Maximum DSD support identifies the highest DSD rate a device can accept or play in the stated mode.
Native DSD and DoP can have separate limits, and each input or playback path can differ. A DSD claim without a rate does not establish a particular maximum.
Maximum DSD Support — Streamer
For a streamer, DSD support can refer to network or file playback or to a named digital input. These receiving and playback paths are separate from the DSD format sent through a digital output.
Compare the named connection and DSD mode. An unspecified product-wide maximum should not be assumed for every path, and one socket can have a lower limit than another. DSF and DFF are file formats, not rate values.
Maximum DSD Support — Headphone Amp
For a headphone amplifier with a DAC, DSD support describes the digital conversion section’s accepted format. It does not apply to an analogue line input or describe headphone-output power.
Compare the stated DSD rate, transfer method and digital connection with the source. DoP support is a different transfer mode from native DSD, even though both carry DSD data. A generic DSD claim should not be expanded into an unstated rate.
Maximum DSD Support — DAC
For a DAC, DSD support describes the signal accepted at the specified input. Different connections and native or DoP modes may have different ceilings.
Compare the exact input and transfer mode with the source output. A highest overall claim does not establish equal support on every socket. Keep internally converting PCM to DSD separate from accepting an incoming DSD stream, and do not confuse a file extension with a rate.
