Dubbing Speeds

Dubbing speeds are the rates available for copying a cassette from one well of a twin-well deck to the other.

Normal-speed dubbing copies in real time. High-speed dubbing runs the source and destination tapes faster together, reducing the time needed while leaving the completed copy playable at normal speed.

Dubbing Speeds — Cassette Deck

This feature matters when making tape-to-tape copies on the deck itself. A double-speed mode takes roughly half the playing time to copy a passage, apart from starting and stopping. Both transports must operate in the coordinated dubbing mode; ordinary fast winding does not make a recording.

Compare the stated speed options and any restrictions on pausing or editing during copying. High-speed capability does not establish equal recording quality in both modes. Playback pitch adjustment is a different function, and a single-well deck cannot perform this internal two-tape operation. The presence of two wells alone does not confirm high-speed dubbing.
