Electrostatic Bias Voltage
Electrostatic bias voltage is the DC polarizing voltage required by an electrostatic headphone or supplied by its driver unit.
It is separate from the varying high-voltage audio signal. Common systems include 580 V Pro bias and 230 V normal bias, while other designs can require different values.
Electrostatic Bias Voltage — Headphone
For an electrostatic headphone, the value states its required polarizing supply. Compatibility depends on the correct bias arrangement and connector, as well as the intended driver unit.
Match the headphone’s stated requirements rather than choosing a higher voltage. A bias rating is not sensitivity, audio output swing or a guarantee that a physically similar connector is compatible.
Electrostatic Bias Voltage — Headphone Amp
For an electrostatic driver unit, the value describes the DC bias supplied at the specified headphone output. Some units offer separate outputs or selectable bias arrangements.
Keep the value tied to the relevant socket or mode and the headphone’s requirements. Maximum audio voltage, often stated peak-to-peak or RMS, is a different rating and cannot substitute for the DC bias specification.
