EQ Band Frequency Range

EQ band frequency range describes the frequencies an equalizer's adjustment bands cover, in hertz or kilohertz.

This tells you where tonal changes can be made. It is different from frequency response, which describes the audio passing through the unit. The meaning of the endpoints depends on whether the controls are graphic, parametric or simple tone controls.

EQ Band Frequency Range — Equalizer

For a graphic equalizer, the endpoints are the lowest and highest band centre frequencies. For a parametric equalizer, they describe the available tuning span across its bands. Tone controls may instead specify turnover or centre frequencies. These distinctions determine whether you can place an adjustment at the frequency you need.

Compare equalizers of the same control type and check each band's tuning limits, bandwidth and boost or cut range. A broad total span does not mean every band reaches every frequency. Nor do the stated endpoints mark sharp boundaries beyond which an adjustment has no effect.
