EQ Type
EQ Type describes the arrangement of controls an equalizer uses to change the balance between frequencies.
A graphic equalizer provides controls at fixed frequency bands. A parametric equalizer typically allows adjustment of a band’s centre frequency, width and gain. Some designs combine approaches or provide only part of those adjustments, so the type needs to be read with the actual controls.

Fixed bands can make broad adjustments straightforward, while variable frequency and width can target a more specific region. Neither approach is automatically more accurate or better sounding; the useful choice depends on the required correction and the available range and resolution.
Check how many bands operate independently and whether high-pass, low-pass or shelving filters are included. A filter changes a range of frequencies according to its response shape. The type label does not specify noise, distortion, processing latency or available headroom, and it does not guarantee that automatic measurement or correction is provided.
