External Clock Input Rate

External clock input rate identifies the timing-reference frequencies a device accepts from an external source.

The accepted rate belongs to a specified clock-signal type. A 10 MHz reference and audio word clock serve different clocking arrangements, even if both use BNC connectors.

External Clock Input Rate — USB Reclocker

For a USB reclocker, this specification helps match an external timing source to the clock input. It does not describe the audio sample rates carried by the USB connection or the frequency of the unit’s internal oscillator.

Compare the accepted frequencies with the external clock’s output and check signal type, level, impedance and termination separately. A matching frequency alone does not establish full compatibility. Keep input rates separate from clock rates the reclocker generates, and preserve a list or range of supported rates rather than choosing only the largest.
