Fast Wind Time

Fast Wind Time is the stated time a tape deck takes to wind a full tape rapidly in the specified direction.

The figure needs the tape length or duration used for the test. Fast-forward and rewind times may differ, so one value should not be assumed to describe both directions.

Fast Wind Time — Tape Deck

A shorter time can make moving between distant parts of a cassette more convenient. Compare figures for the same tape basis and operating conditions; a longer cassette naturally involves a different amount of tape to move.

The measurement does not describe playback speed accuracy or the time to locate a specific track. Automatic search, braking and tape condition can affect practical navigation. Keep the stated test cassette and direction with the number rather than treating a winding-time figure as a general transport-quality score.
