Fiber / Core Material

Fibre core material identifies the light-carrying material inside an optical cable.

Common descriptions include plastic and glass-based fibre. The core is distinct from its surrounding layers, protective jacket and connector housing.

Fiber / Core Material — Optical Cable

For an optical audio cable, the core carries the digital signal as light between compatible ports. Its material describes the transmission medium, while the connector type determines how the cable attaches to the equipment.

Compare the stated core material alongside the cable’s supported length, optical loss and handling limits when available. Do not infer a particular audio resolution or maximum usable distance from material alone: the complete cable and connected devices matter. A description of the outer braid or jacket does not identify the fibre core, and a more rigid construction is not automatically more tolerant of tight bends.
