Glossary term

Selectable Digital Filters

The number of digital reconstruction-filter settings you can select in a DAC. These shape the signal as digital audio becomes analogue.

Different filters can change high-frequency roll-off and the response around brief impulses. More choices do not mean better sound.

Selectable Digital Filters — DAC

Use a stated count or a named list of selectable settings. Count a listed NOS (non-oversampling) or filter-off option once; the label alone does not prove that all filtering or oversampling is bypassed.

A fixed filter, or “selectable” without a count or names, leaves this entry empty. That does not mean there is no filtering. Exclude analogue filters, equalisation (EQ) or tone presets, upsampling rates, unrelated sound modes and optional-module filters.

Check the product’s manual or menu for its actual choices and format or sample-rate limits. A DAC chip’s capabilities do not establish which settings the product offers.
