FM Muting Threshold
FM muting threshold is the antenna signal level below which a tuner silences its audio output.
Muting reduces unwanted sound between stations or when a signal is too weak. A threshold can be fixed or adjustable and may be stated in microvolts, dBf or dBµV.

A lower threshold lets weaker stations remain audible; a higher threshold requires a stronger signal before sound is heard. An adjustable range shows how far that switching point can be changed. This affects listening convenience, rather than improving the incoming radio signal itself.
Compare values using the same units and antenna impedance. Do not compare a microvolt number directly with dBf or dBµV. Muting threshold is separate from usable sensitivity and the signal level needed for stereo reception, even when a manufacturer gives them the same value.
