FM Spurious Response Rejection

FM spurious-response rejection describes a tuner's suppression of unwanted reception responses beyond its separately specified image and intermediate-frequency responses.

Radio circuits can respond to signals other than the selected station. This decibel figure describes suppression of those unwanted responses. A larger comparable number indicates better rejection under the test conditions, not a universal measure of reception quality.

FM Spurious Response Rejection — Tuner

A spurious response can let an unrelated radio signal interfere with reception even though the tuner is set elsewhere. This specification helps describe resistance to that problem. It concerns unwanted receiving responses, rather than unwanted audio harmonics measured by total harmonic distortion.

Compare figures only when the measurement procedure and tested frequency coverage are comparable. Separately listed image and IF rejection values address their own mechanisms; adjacent-channel selectivity concerns nearby stations. A single high rejection figure should not stand in for all three. Local interference and antenna conditions remain important when assessing a real installation.
