HDMI Audio Output
The number of HDMI outputs that carry the disc’s digital audio to compatible receiving equipment.
An audio-capable HDMI output can be a combined audio/video connection or a dedicated audio output. An HDMI-shaped socket carrying I²S or a proprietary link is not automatically standard HDMI audio.
HDMI Audio Output — CD Transport
For a CD Transport, an HDMI audio output provides a route to a compatible receiver or processor using the transport’s supported audio format. It should be explicitly identified as HDMI audio rather than inferred from the socket shape.
Read the count for outputs that carry audio. A video-only output is excluded, while a combined audio/video output can count. An HDMI version number alone does not state how many usable audio outputs are present.
Compare the output’s audio formats with the receiving input. This connection is different from an I²S link on the same connector style, and the count does not establish simultaneous independent playback or improved audio quality.
HDMI Audio Output — SACD Transport
For an SACD Transport, HDMI audio can provide a compatible route for disc playback to an AV receiver or processor. The transmitted format may depend on the disc, transport settings and receiving device’s capabilities.
Count audio-capable outputs, including a main audio/video output and any dedicated audio-only output. A brand-specific digital link or I²S socket using an HDMI connector belongs to a different connection type unless standard HDMI audio is also stated.
Compare DSD, PCM and multichannel support for the complete connection. An HDMI socket alone does not establish which SACD signals can be sent or decoded, and two outputs do not necessarily support independent programmes.
