HDMI Audio Output
HDMI Audio Output is a count of HDMI sockets. An ordinary HDMI output sends digital audio to a compatible TV or AV receiver; some outputs also carry video.
The count does not establish audio formats, channel counts or video support. One HDMI connection can carry several audio channels when both devices support them.
HDMI Audio Output — Streamer
For streamers, this count also includes HDMI ARC and eARC sockets. These audio-return connections receive sound from a TV, rather than sending the streamer’s music to it. Check the socket’s label and manual.
To play music through a receiver, check the streamer’s HDMI output and the receiver’s HDMI input for matching audio formats and channel support. Check video support separately: an audio-only output cannot show the streamer’s screen on your TV.
I²S links using HDMI-shaped sockets are a separate interface, excluded from this count. A matching plug does not make them compatible with ordinary HDMI.
