HDMI Version / Certification

The stated HDMI specification level identifies the interface revision associated with a product’s compatibility claim.

For cables, a revision number alone is an incomplete description. The recognized cable type, certification and supported operating modes provide the practical compatibility information.

HDMI Version / Certification — HDMI Cable

When comparing HDMI cables, use the claimed specification level alongside the cable’s named category and verified capabilities. Certification applies to the cable product and its tested configuration, rather than granting new features to the connected devices.

Compare the actual required bandwidth, video mode and audio-return functions at the intended length. Do not infer every optional device feature from a version label or treat a seller’s version wording alone as proof of certification. Connector type is also a separate physical specification.
