Head Azimuth Adjustment

Head Azimuth Adjustment indicates an accessible adjustment of a tape head’s angle relative to the recorded tracks.

Correct alignment matters for high-frequency reproduction and the relationship between channels. A tape recorded with a different alignment may not reproduce as intended even when its speed and track format are compatible.

Check whether the adjustment is intended for the user or for service alignment. An accessible screw is not permission to alter it without the specified method. Changing a recording head’s alignment can affect future recordings as well as the current setup.

Use the machine’s alignment procedure and appropriate reference material rather than adjusting by arbitrary preference. Azimuth is separate from head height, tape speed and equalization. It cannot restore damaged recordings or correct every tape-path fault, and one tape’s alignment may not suit the rest of a collection.
