High Filter

Whether a preamp has a switchable high-cut filter that reduces high-frequency noise.

Yes means the filter is available; it does not specify its settings. An unlisted feature remains unknown, not no. Despite its name, a high filter cuts highs. A high-pass filter cuts lows. An ordinary treble tone control is a separate feature.

High Filter — Preamp

Try the preamp’s high filter when record scratch or noisy radio makes listening tiring. It reduces music at the same frequencies too, so treble detail can become duller. Compare on and off: keep it on only if the noise reduction is worth the lost detail.

For comparison, check the manual’s cutoff frequency and slope: where the high-frequency reduction is specified, and how steeply it increases above that point. Two preamps marked yes need not filter alike.
