I2S Interface
The physical connector and electrical signalling used by the product’s external I²S connection.
External I²S links can use HDMI-style, RJ45 or other connectors. Connector shape alone does not establish compatibility: signalling, pin assignment, direction and supported formats must also agree.
I2S Interface — DAC
On a DAC, the I²S interface describes how a compatible digital source connects to its I²S input. The same connector style may carry a completely different protocol on another device.
Read the published electrical variant, such as HDMI with LVDS signalling or RJ45 with LVDS or LVCMOS. Then check the pinout profile and any configurable options for the exact source and DAC.
Compare the complete interface rather than buying by socket shape. An HDMI video output is not an I²S source, and an RJ45 I²S socket is not Ethernet. The interface label alone does not establish DSD support or an audible advantage.
I2S Interface — CD Transport
On a CD Transport, an I²S interface provides a route from the disc-reading electronics to a compatible DAC. The interface type describes the external connection rather than the disc format or output sample rate.
Check connector style, electrical signalling and pin assignments on both components. A transport using HDMI-style I²S is not thereby supplying standard HDMI audio or video, and an RJ45 implementation is not a network connection.
Compare the intended output mode with the DAC’s supported rates and interface profile. Similar-looking I²S sockets can use different wiring. The connection does not make a CD recording higher resolution or establish better sound by itself.
I2S Interface — SACD Transport
On an SACD Transport, I²S can be a digital output route to a compatible DAC, with available formats determined by the particular product and connection. The interface label alone does not establish native SACD delivery.
Check the physical connector, electrical signalling, pinout and any format-specific requirements. HDMI-style I²S is distinct from ordinary HDMI audio, so compatibility must be explicit rather than inferred from a familiar cable.
Compare the transport’s stated DSD and PCM output modes with the DAC’s corresponding support. A matching pinout may still leave format or product restrictions to resolve. The connector type does not establish multichannel playback or universal interoperability.
I2S Interface — Streamer
On a Streamer, an I²S interface can provide a digital connection to a compatible DAC. Its physical and electrical variant identifies part of the compatibility check for that output.
Read the connector, signalling and direction as stated. HDMI-style and RJ45 implementations can differ, and a configurable pinout may need to match the receiving DAC. A bare I²S claim without connection details leaves those requirements unresolved.
Compare supported PCM and DSD formats separately from the connector type. Do not connect the socket to a television’s HDMI port or an Ethernet network merely because the plug fits. A matching connector is only the starting point.
