Impedance Selector Settings

Impedance selector settings are the headphone load values or ranges associated with an amplifier's selectable output positions.

They identify headphone matching options, often through transformer taps or another circuit. A setting labelled 300 ohms does not automatically mean the output has 300 ohms of source impedance.

Impedance Selector Settings — Headphone Amp

The selector helps adapt the amplifier to the connected headphone load. Positions may show individual impedances or ranges such as low, medium and high, with stated limits. Keep each position's intended range visible when considering which setting applies.

Compare selector options separately from measured output impedance, gain and power. A recommended headphone range without a selector does not establish selectable positions. A multiplier without an ohm value is not an impedance rating. Follow the amplifier's specified matching instructions rather than treating higher settings as inherently better.
