Glossary term
Ingress Protection Rating
An IP rating describes enclosure protection against solid-particle and water ingress under specified tests.
The first digit concerns solids and the second water; X means that category has no stated rating. An IP rating is a defined test result rather than a general promise of waterproofing.
Ingress Protection Rating — Headphone
For headphones or earbuds, identify whether the rating applies to the earpieces, charging case or both. A splash rating such as IPX4 does not establish immersion protection.
Keep the exact code and stated use conditions. Sweat resistance and suitability for swimming need their own product guidance; an earpiece rating does not automatically cover the case, and resistance can diminish with wear.
