Isolation Mechanism
The isolation mechanism describes how a support reduces the transmission of mechanical vibration.
Designs can use compliant materials, springs, rolling elements or combinations of these. The mechanism describes construction rather than a single numerical isolation result.
Isolation Mechanism — Damping Feet
In isolation feet, the mechanism operates at the contact points between a component and its supporting surface. Its behaviour depends on how the component’s weight loads the feet and which directions of movement the design accommodates.
Compare the intended load range, placement and direction of isolation alongside the mechanism name. Different designs can require different setup or settling behaviour. A compliant or moving support should not be assumed suitable for every component merely because it is described as an isolator.
Isolation Mechanism — Damping Base
An isolation base supports the component on a platform whose isolation elements separate it mechanically from the surface below. Some mechanisms mainly address vertical movement, while others also allow controlled horizontal movement.
Compare the specified working load and directions of isolation for the complete platform. The mechanism name alone does not establish performance at every vibration frequency. Keep sufficient clearance for any intended platform movement and use the loading arrangement specified for the base.
