Level Meter Range
Level meter range is the span between the lowest and highest markings on an audio level meter's scale.
Endpoints are expressed in decibels relative to the meter reference. They describe what the display can indicate, rather than the circuit’s dynamic range or the tape’s usable recording range.

A scale extending farther below its reference can show lower-level passages, while markings above the reference help follow louder peaks. The range is read from the stated lower and upper limits. Zero on this scale is a calibration reference, not silence.
Compare endpoints together with the reference level, meter response and scale resolution. A wider displayed range does not prove more recording headroom. The number of illuminated segments is a separate specification, and a peak-warning light alone does not establish an additional calibrated scale marking.
