Maximum Reel Size
Maximum Reel Size is the largest reel diameter a reel-to-reel machine is designed to accept.
The size is normally given in inches or centimetres. It describes the reel’s outside diameter, not the width of the tape or the type of hub. Those are separate compatibility requirements.
Maximum Reel Size — Reel-to-Reel
Check whether the maximum size requires adapters or a particular operating arrangement. A reel fitting the available space does not establish correct hub engagement or suitability for the transport. Use the supported reel and loading procedure.
Reel diameter alone does not state playing time: tape length, thickness and playback speed also matter. Nor does the maximum guarantee compatibility with every smaller reel. Compare the permitted diameter range and hub standard rather than treating one large-reel figure as a complete description of the machine’s tape handling.
