Maximum Output Current

Maximum output current describes the largest current an amplifier output can deliver under its stated conditions.

It is commonly a short-duration or peak figure and may be quoted per channel. It is separate from mains current, supply-adaptor rating and a protection-trip threshold.

Maximum Output Current — Headphone Amp

For a headphone amplifier, current capability helps describe drive into lower-impedance loads. The available voltage, load and test duration determine how the figure relates to usable output.

Compare the same peak or maximum basis, duration and channel condition. A protection-current threshold is not automatically a deliverable output rating. The maximum current alone does not establish continuous power into every headphone impedance.

Maximum Output Current — Power Amp

For a power amplifier, maximum output current characterizes short-term drive under the specified load and test arrangement. It is not necessarily current that can be sustained continuously.

Compare load, duration and per-channel scope. Keep the figure separate from a fuse rating or mains draw, and do not calculate continuous speaker power from a brief current peak without the corresponding operating conditions.
