Minimum Bend Radius
Minimum bend radius is the smallest permitted radius of curvature for a cable under the stated handling conditions.
Radius is measured from the centre of a curve, so it is half the corresponding diameter. A larger minimum value requires a broader turn.
Minimum Bend Radius — Optical Cable
An optical cable may need space behind equipment or inside a cabinet to avoid bending too sharply. Tight bends can impair light transmission or damage the fibre, so the published limit helps plan a suitable route.
Compare limits under the same conditions: a cable being installed or repeatedly flexed may have a different limit from one left in place. Do not interpret a radius as a diameter or use a sharp fold to make a cable fit. Leave sufficient space at the connector as well as along the cable run.
