Multipath Output
A multipath output lets an FM tuner feed an external oscilloscope display used to assess reflected-signal reception.
Multipath occurs when a signal reaches the antenna by more than one route, including reflections. The interference can impair reception. A scope output helps make that condition visible during antenna adjustment; it is not itself a correction system.
Multipath Output — Tuner
Some tuners provide horizontal and vertical signals for an external oscilloscope so the reception pattern can be observed while positioning an antenna. This offers more information than listening alone when trying to reduce multipath. The output is a measurement connection, rather than a programme-audio output.
Compare the oscilloscope connections and the instructions for interpreting the display. A built-in multipath meter does not prove scope sockets are provided. A detector or quadradial output has another purpose and is not automatically suitable. The presence of scope outputs does not guarantee that reflected signals can be eliminated in an installation.
