Mute
Mute Switch records whether you can deliberately silence the product’s audio through a button, switch, remote or app control.
A user mute is different from an automatic startup delay that keeps an output quiet while equipment settles.
Mute — Phono Preamp
On a phono stage, mute can provide a convenient pause in the signal sent to the next component without changing its gain or loading settings. Check where the control is available and which outputs it affects.
Do not assume that muting powers the circuit off or makes cable changes safe. Follow the equipment’s shutdown and connection instructions even when the output is muted. Also check the volume before restoring playback.
A protection relay or automatic power-on muting alone does not establish a user-operated function. Silence in a specification sheet leaves the feature unknown, rather than proving there is no mute control.
