Output Voltage Regulation (Absolute)

Output Voltage Regulation in Volts describes the stated variation of a power device’s output voltage under specified conditions.

The value needs a reference voltage and a clear definition of the limits. A ± variation, a total span and a percentage are different ways of expressing regulation and should not be compared as identical numbers.

Output Voltage Regulation (Absolute) — Power Filter

Check the input-voltage range and load conditions over which the figure applies. A smaller permitted variation under the same conditions means a tighter voltage tolerance. It does not describe what happens outside those operating limits.

Regulation is separate from noise filtering, surge handling and the maximum load. A mains filter does not necessarily regulate voltage at all. Compare a stated regulation figure only with products offering that function, and retain its conditions rather than inferring output stability from the product category.
