Input Sensitivity (MC)
The voltage at the moving-coil input needed to produce the phono stage’s stated reference output.
Input sensitivity is usually specified at 1 kHz. It must be read with the reference output and gain setting, rather than as a standalone quality score.
Input Sensitivity (MC) — Phono Preamp
For a Phono Preamp, MC sensitivity helps describe the amplification available for a moving-coil cartridge. A smaller required input means greater gain only when the compared figures use the same reference output and measurement conditions.
Values may be expressed in millivolts or microvolts: 0.5 mV equals 500 µV. Where several gain settings or MC input paths are offered, keep each sensitivity figure with its matching setting or path.
Use sensitivity alongside cartridge output, loading and overload information when assessing a combination. It is not the maximum input the stage can accept, nor a minimum cartridge output threshold. A recommended cartridge-output range describes compatibility rather than this measured input-to-output relationship.
