Phono Stage Form
Phono Stage Form describes whether the phono function is a standalone product, built into another component or supplied as a plug-in module for a host.
All three forms can provide cartridge gain and playback equalization; the label describes packaging and integration rather than performance.
Phono Stage Form — Phono Preamp
A standalone stage feeds a suitable line input on another component. Its own external power supply does not turn it into a built-in stage. A built-in stage is part of a turntable, amplifier, receiver or another product with a broader purpose.
A plug-in module fits a specified host and may depend on it for power, connections and controls. Verify the exact host and module compatibility before purchase; a card is not automatically usable as an independent phono box.
Compare supported cartridge types, gain, loading and available outputs separately. The physical form does not establish those functions, nor does a separate enclosure alone guarantee quieter or better playback.
